My husband and I were army for 19 years before we ever attended a ball. When we finally went, I purchased and wore this dress:

Then we moved, and had another ball a couple months after we arrived in Alaska. So I wore the red gown again.
Now we have another one coming up.....and I decided to make my gown.
I am making "Dress A" of Simplicity pattern #3823

The dress will have a black bodice and under skirt, and the actual skirt is going to be a glittery teal.

The dress is coming along nicely, but there's a problem. I have to have boning for the midriff. Up here in Fairbanks, there aren't many fabric stores to choose from, and the one that I bought the fabric from was completely out of it. But I have a lead on a couple other stores. One I had forgotten about, and another I didn't even know about.
So.....hopefully I can find what I need, so that I can wear the dress of my own creation. If not, I'll have to get creative!
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock

I'm not the only one getting creative for a military ball bown. Check out Ann Marie's project!
Us army wives are a resourceful lot.
How about you?
