Sunshine, Guns & Fresh Air

We are avid shooting sports folks around this house. Today, I took the kids out of town to a small, out of the way shooting range, and we all took turns at the targets.

Out and About

Yesterday, I took the kids on a little exploration. We headed out to the southern end of Fairbanks, particularly looking for a shooting range I had heard about.

Well, we found the shooting range, and decided to head on out for a walk towards the nearby Tanana River. Along the way, we actually spooked up a Bald Eagle! It was only 20 feet away! If you look close, you can see a glimpse of the white head there.

Unleavened Bread

Tonight for dinner, we will be having Lamb, Corn Casserole, Salad and Fudge Pudding Cake for dessert. In addition, last night I made Matzo. It was incredibly simple!

I have a crazy-busy week this week, so I will post the recipe soon.

Just in Time

Last week, my husband and I decided to go out to dinner to celebrate our 20th anniversary. It was a little early, because our anniversary isn't until May, but we knew his deployment was "any day." So we went out to dinner at a restaurant inside a local lodge. And because of that "any day" status, we took the whole family.

In the Paper

The other day, our local newspaper published our daughter's graduation photo that I submitted for the local page. The one day I hadn't read the paper! Someone came up to me over the weekend and told me about seeing it. Good thing I hadn't already recycled it!

That Snow...

You know that snow we got all winter? Well it isn't really a big deal when it all comes down. Sure you have to shovel, but you kind of expect that in Alaska.

The problems occur when it starts to melt.

Well, my life is a little chaotic at the moment, and I didn't get my proper "Military Monday" post prepared, but I didn't want to leave you hanging.

Blueberry Streusel Muffins

When we lived in North Carolina, I developed lots of blackberry recipes, because they grew wild in abundance there. Now I'm starting in on blueberries. Especially since I recently discovered a very out of the way patch of wild ones! These particular muffins were made with some gorgeous wild blueberries that were given to me by a new, dear friend up here in Alaska.

These are just heavenly! (If I do say so myself!)

Yesterday, we were greeted by this sight when we looked out the window.

I must say, that the snow cracks me up...but this country mouse starts to itch when I look out my window and see other houses.

Pray for our Nation

Right now, anyone associated with the military is under a great deal of stress.

Right now, we need to be praying for our government leaders.

If they can't get something passed NOW in regards to the federal budget, the government WILL shut down, and military pay WILL be effected.

Coffee

Something that I have noticed since moving from the Southeast to the Northwest, is how much people up here LOVE their coffee.

I mean, in the south, sure, you see a Starbucks or a coffee shop all over the place. But up here? Who needs a sofa and a fireplace for coffee? This is Alaska! They just want the coffee!

A Saturday Evening Walk

Yesterday evening after dinner, Jeff, my daughter and I headed out for a little walk with the dogs.

Although....Bear didn't do much walking.

I admit it.

Today I went to another new shop in Fairbanks (new to me anyways.)
