This week's Military Spouse is Carlie K!
What branch of the military are you associated with?
How long have you been military?
My husband has been in the Army 8 years.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a blessed, stay-at-home-homeschoolin' mama to 3 precious "gifts" I call children :) I am a proud Army wife and have been married to the love of my life, Michael, for over 11 years now.
Tell us a little about your family:
Michael and I met while attending Washington State University for our undergrad study. We have three precious gifts: Hannah (10), Malachi (4), and Solomon (2). We also have our beautiful Standard Poodle, Samuel, whom we all love to pieces. We LOVE to be outdoors - especially near water :) We love Jesus and enjoy our time together as a family in the Word (Bible) and worshipping God.
What are your hobbies and interests?
My hobbies/interests are reading, writing, blogging, photography, and anything associated with homemaking.
What do you love to blog about?
I love to blog about our military homeschooling adventures and our faith in Jesus Christ. I recently finished a 5-part series on my homeschool blog entitled, "Marriage, Family, And Homeschooling" that gives a candid look into how these three delicately intertwine with Jesus and our military lifestyle. I have been blessed to be asked by an online Christian women's magazine to write a weekly homeschool column and I have accepted the offer :)
What is your favorite part of Military Life?
My favorite part of military life is the ability to travel and live all over the world. In addition to this, it enables us to meet so many people that we would have never otherwise met. We are currently stationed in Europe and the experience has been nothing short of amazing! And I am so proud of my husband!
What is your least favorite part of Military Life?
My least favorite part of military life are the separations. We are beginning our 5th long deployment in the last 8 years. It is always a challenge to reestablish family life once hubby is away for a while - and the same is true upon his returns. But we work through it every time with Jesus as our center.
What piece of advice would you give to a new military spouse?
I would encourage any new military spouse to get "plugged in" to their communities through FRG, church fellowships, meet up groups, etc. It is unwise to ever isolate yourself in this lifestyle. While the military life can be very rewarding, it is also very demanding and can be down right tough - specifically speaking about long deployments. But with friends to encourage you - and you to encourage them - it can be a very rich experience.
Tell us one random, or unusual thing about yourself.
I absolutely LOVE to clean. Clean the floors. Do the laundry. Clean the windows. It really doesn't matter, I LOVE it. Guess it's a good thing God called me to be at home :)
