Homeschool "Prom"
Next weekend, is the local Homeschool Spring Formal. The other day, I went to a meeting for the chaperons, and the kids had dancing lessons. They had a blast.

Growing Things, Part 2
Some of the things that are growing around here, are part of the "feathered" family...
Hello little Silky!

Jungle-Phoenix

They are very pretty!

This would be an Ameraucana.......ROOSTER!

"What! A Rooster? Where?!"

An Ameraucana Hen

And this would be ANOTHER Rooster!

Yes-sir-ee....that could be a problem. Especially since we are certain that at least one of those Jungle-Phoenix is a rooster as well......
Hmmm...
Dumplings.....
Roasted.....
Fried.....
"WHAT!?!?!"

My Feathered Alarm Clock
This morning I was awoken by a rap-tap-tapping on my bedroom window. That was a strange thing to wake up to! I rushed to the window, and looked through the blinds, and couldn't find what had made the noise. I assumed it was a woodpecker. Odd.
So I got up, and later told my daughter about it. She then told me about a yellow bird that had been trying to fly through the living room window yesterday. Silly bird!
So a little while ago, I heard "thump! thump! thump!" coming from my bedroom. I walked in there to see what was making the noise, and there again was a yellow bird flying around the window, trying to get in! After it fluttered around for a few seconds, it grabbed onto the screen and sat there looking at me. Finally it flew away.
A few minutes later, it was back, flying outside of the living room window, then up into the tree.
I grabbed my camera, and looked out the window. It isn't the greatest of photos, but I was taking it through the window with blinds on it.
Introducing the "Tropical Kingbird" (Tyrannus melancholicus) I had actually never seen one of these before, and it took some searching to find out what it was.

Also known as my feathered alarm clock.

"Sourdough" Waffles
This recipe page has been redone with pictorial and printable version
-- > HERE
This is one of my favorites! We have this for dinner...."Breakfast for Dinner".... more that we actually have it for breakfast. There is nothing like home-made waffles out of your own waffle-maker.

"Sourdough Waffles"
1 1/2 c soured milk (in your measuring cup, add 1 Tb of lemon juice *or* vinegar, then add enough milk to make 1 1/2 c.)
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 t baking soda
1 Tb baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 3/4 c flour
1 stick (1/2 c) melted butter
Prepared soured milk, and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, beat eggs.
Add in vanilla.
Mix in soured milk.
In another bowl, combine dry ingredients, then mix into milk mixture, until smooth.
Mix in melted butter.
There you have it. Now make them according to your waffle-maker instructions.
Enjoy!

A Very Full Day
We had a very full and enjoyable day today.
We got up this morning, did some usual school work, and then headed off for a "field trip" or two.
First.....a "Tea Party!" Lots of people came out to exercise their constitutional rights....

The participants were of all ages...

After the party, we headed to a nearby museum....civics and history, a great combination. Exercise your freedom, and then be reminded why we have it.

Then we came home, did some mowing, planted more of the garden, and finished out the day by enjoying some homemade chocolate milkshakes.
What a great day!

Hiking
A friend and I got together today and took the kiddos on a picnic & hike. The weather didn't look so hot today, but we decided to go for it, and hope for the best. It ended up being perfect. Just as we finished the hike, it began to sprinkle, couldn't ask for anything better than that!
We started off at the nature center, that had lots of native critters. Here are some of the hawks that live there.

Me and the kiddos out on a log.

Does JM look a little nervous? Maybe because her brother kept shaking the log...

Looking over one of many bridges

"I'm not going to fall in Mom, you know me better than THAT"

Yep....Mom knows well

Enjoying nature along the way. The plant life....

And the wild animals...

Did we not learn our lesson on the last log?

Apparently not.
