You have family.
Not the kind you share DNA with, but an extended family.
We are in the aviation portion of the army, and a while back, one of our pilots was shot. That is not something you ever, ever want to hear. But it happened.
The soldier was sent back to the US, and to our local hospital for care. He is a single soldier, so his family members traveled from another state to be here to meet his plane and see him to the hospital. While he was there, the extended family did what the extended family does.
Because his family is not from here, and already had the expense and stress of coming here, to a strange area, and practically living in a hotel room themselves, several of "us wives" took turns cooking meals and bringing them to the hospital room. We would visit with them, offer assistance, do whatever we could to ease the stress. We shared phone numbers, e-mail addresses, offered to help in any way, got a question, don't hesitate to call!
It's what family does.
A month or so later, I got a package. This was completely unexpected.

The pilot's family sent boxes similar to this one, to every one of "us wives" who had come to do the thing that family does.
Such a heart-felt letter, you have never seen.
It even brought tears to this long-time army wife.
Thank you again, to that sweet, sweet family.
But it's what family does.
